COMMUNITY ALERT - ROBBERY INCIDENT

On Thursday October 29th 2009 at or about 8:09 a.m; Yeadon Police received a police radio call of a robbery just occurred. The complainant was calling from the emergency call box station at the rear of the Police Department.

The female victim, a 16 year old school student was walking east bound on Providence Road to the Yeadon Cypress Street Campus. While walking in the area of the 500 block of Industrial Drive, an unknown black male armed with a handgun grabbed her from behind and placed his arm around her neck and demanded her iPod and other personal possessions.

The victim struggled with the suspect after he grabbed her iPod and other personal belongings. After the brief struggle, the suspect fled on foot towards Elder Avenue. The victim immediately ran towards Baily Road, where she flagged down a passing motorist who drove he to the police station. The suspect is described as a young black male wearing tan colored pants, a dark colored jacket, black sneakers, along with a bandanna covering a portion of his face.

Police responded to the area and conducted an extensive search but was unable to locate a suspect fitting the description. The William Penn School District was immediately notified of the incident. The student was not injured and her mother was notified of the incident and responded to the police department. The Investigation is ongoing.
